Hard-working and whimsical, Christopher and his work rely upon experimentation, reverence and dedication. Colvin is committed to realizing oils as a viable and sensual medium in a climate of digital obsession.
Narratives of often bleak and bizarre rendezvous in desolate expansive backdrops are revealed through many of layers of paint that juxtapose heavy textures alongside translucent glazes. Abstract blocks and circles denote space within the typically flat planes and strong horizon lines. Characters are held in anticipation of events about to unfold, events that promise to be as colorful and luminescent as the oils themselves.
Colvin’s paintings are in private collections internationally and he is the subject of the soon to be released feature length documentary based on his life and work, and that of prominent South African artist Michael Barry.
Colvin currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
